Online students can apply for these $1,000 scholarships at Bemidji State University

Scholarships for online students aren’t so common, but they exist

Online students might have to do some digging before they can find the scholarships specifically targeted at them. You can start with this one

A college or graduate school education can be costly for on-campus and distance learning students, but fortunately there are ways to help ease the burden of these hefty costs.

So how do you get financial assistance to help cover the costs of your online masters degree or bachelor program? The same as traditional students. First off you try and apply for financial aid at the university where you enrolled. However, you need to proceed with caution. Prospective distance learning students should first make sure a program is accredited by the Department of Education. If that’s the case, then the students are definitely eligible to receive federal funds.

Then there’s the decision of whether a student should enroll in a full online masters degree or bachelor or a part-time one. You see this could end up affecting the amount of financial aid you will ultimately get. So keep in mind that many online programs require students to meet credit-hour requirements to receive certain amount or types of aid.

The second route to getting the funding you need for college is to apply for scholarships. But keep one thing in mind. Yes, some scholarship providers are still hesitant about online education and while some scholarships are open to online learners enrolled in accredited programs, some are not.

Students should research beforehand to make absolutely sure they are eligible for a certain scholarship or risk wasting their precious time on an application that will never go through. It would be advised you acquaint yourself with scholarship search engines – which allow students to specify their individual circumstances and get the results that only match their specific criteria.

Anyway, to get you started on the road to getting a grant, here’s an example you might want to check out. The Bemidji State University located in Minnesota offers a wide range of scholarship options for online and distance learning students. These grants are awarded based on both need and merit and if you’re curious you can check out the database for more information.

For example, the university offers the Edward Gersich Distance Education Scholarship which is worth $1,000 and is targeted at distance learning students with junior or senior status.

Applicants need to be at least 25 years old to apply and have a minimum GPA of at least 3.0. To become eligible for the Edward Gersich Distance Education Scholarship your application also needs to include an essay in which you talk about your future educational goals and give some reasons as to why you should be awarded the scholarship.

As we mentioned above, the Bemidji State University also offers other scholarship opportunities like the Gladys McKinley Distance Learning scholarship for undergraduate or graduate students enrolled in Teacher Education Degree Programs. This grant is also worth $1,000.

For students pursuing a business-related degree or professions, there’s the Michael McKinley Distance Learning scholarship which awards the same $1,000 sum. It’s awarded to students either at an undergraduate or graduate level.

Students with ADHD can access this $2,000 grant

Students who learn differently can also be eligible for scholarships

Students who have been diagnosed with ADHD or a learning disability are invited to apply for this Edge Foundationscholarship which specifically targets them

Going through college is hard enough as it is for a regular student, but it can be ten times harder for a person who has a learning disability or ADHD.

Although ADHD is not considered a learning disability per se, research indicates that 30 to 50 percent of students with ADHD also have a specific learning disability, so the two conditions are intertwined.

Starting college should be an exciting time for any student, yet for those with learning disabilities or ADHD it can create a lot of anxiety. Fortunately, people affected by these conditions have the possibility of opting for an online college course.

Applying for bachelor or associate degrees online takes the uneasiness of having to socialize with new classmates and faculty members and makes the experience a lot easier on the sufferer’s psyche.

Furthermore, there’s another aspect to consider which can change the dynamics of the equation – funding. Traditionally bachelor or associate degrees online cost less than their traditional counterparts, which means you might be able to pay for it faster. Especially if you benefit from a scholarship.

As a student suffering from ADHD or a learning disability you are eligible to apply for scholarships which are exclusively targeting those affected by these conditions.

For example, the Michael Yasick ADHD Scholarship has been created to provide support for individuals who have been diagnosed with ADHD and are looking to pursue a college education. The Scholarship offers $2,000 in funding, but also includes a prepaid year of ADHD coaching from the Edge Foundation to assist in meeting the challenges of college. This applies even for students who have enrolled with an online college course program, as well.

Since it has been established in 2011, this Scholarship program has awarded 298 scholarships to individuals affected by ADHD in the US. So, how do you go about to applying for this grant?

You’ll need to send in medical documents which demonstrate you have officially been diagnosed with ADHD. On top of that, you have to be under the care of a licensed health professional specializing in ADHD at the time of your application.

The scholarship is awarded by the Edge Foundation which is a non-profit organization based in Seattle, Washington. The Foundation provides access to qualified, professional coaches for students with ADHD with the aim to provide structure, support and accountability and to teach the student to provide these things to himself or herself.

This isn’t the only scholarship for ADHD suffers. For example, the Rise Scholarship Foundation awards $2,500 to five students with ADD or ADHD or additional learning disabilities. To apply for this program, you need to demonstrate a minimum GPA of 2.5.

Just because you learn differently, doesn’t mean you can’t. That’s the message these scholarships want to convey to you. So if you are looking to go to college and have been diagnosed with one of the conditions mentioned above, go ahead and try to apply for one of these grants. They will make your educational journey easier.

The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation awards a $40,000 grant to students in financial need

Demonstrate acute financial need and get this 40K grant

It’s not easy to pay for college these days, but the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation can help you fulfill your dreams

University tuition fees keep rising relentlessly in many countries across the globe, especially in the US. On average, undergraduates have to pay 40% more in tuition that they did 10 years ago. This alarming trend has probably put off a lot of students from enrolling with an offline or online university.

Under these less than auspicious conditions, what is a student to do? Renounce his or her ambitions at enrolling with an offline or online degree and pursue something else? But without a degree from a traditional or online university you are doomed to a life of low wages and no advancements in career.

Which is why you need to seek alternative ways to pay for college. For example, you might want to seek a sponsorship or apply for a few scholarships. Your offline/online degree journey would go a lot smoother if you have the financial aspect taken care of.  You won’t have to worry about paying for the degree and be able to concentrate on the important part – acquiring the knowledge and doing the work. But how can you do that when you know you have a massive debt hole you need to cover?

So listen to us when we tell you need to start looking for scholarships. Start with asking at your university whether they have any funding opportunities. If they do try and apply, if they don’t know fire up your browser, because the world wide web is rich in opportunities of all kinds.

Here’s an apt example – the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation is looking to award a scholarship to students looking to attend a full four-year program at an accredited offline or online institution. With this scholarship program, chances might be in your favor as the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation will select up to 40% of applicants to become scholars and have access to funding.

Surely enough, there’s some selection criteria that needs to be taken into consideration like it’s the case with all major scholarships. So at a minimum, candidates need to have a GPA of 3.5 or above, as well as a SAT combined critical reading and math score of 1200 or above and/or ACT composite score of 26 or above.

Applicants must demonstrate acute financial need, and only students who come from families with income up to $95,000 will be considered.

The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation will award up to $40,000 a year, which is very generous compared to other scholarship programs out there. On top of that, candidates aren’t obliged to be pursuing a certain area of study. All students (in financial need) are welcome to apply.  Each year 30-40 scholarship awardees will be selected.

The deadline for sending in the application materials is November 14, 2017 so if you want a chance to win this grant you best hurry up and start putting your documents together.

This is a great scholarship opportunity, but don’t forget you need to have a minimum GPA of 3.5 in order to be accepted as an applicant.

This grant for STEM students cover full tuition and awards a stipend up to $38,000

STEM students can apply for this grant that covers full tuition and more

The scholarship not only covers school fees and living expenses, but also ensures you get a job with the Department of Defense upon graduation

Choosing a traditional or online bachelor degreeis a big deal and if made hastily it can lead to all kinds of negative outcomes. For example, it can land you in an unemployment line or take you back to school, or force you to work a job you hate. While most students understand the consequences of making such a big decision, fear might be preventing them from actually making a decision.

It’s understandable, given that there are many degree programs out there and all come with benefits and disadvantages, but if you feel stuck and nowhere near reaching a final conclusion, then you should be aware there are some things you can do to finally be able to make your choice.

The easiest thing to do is to take a quiz to find out which majors may be a good fit for you and your future. All you could try and realistically asses your hopes and expectations for the future. Too often do students choose a major because they love the topic without really considering if it will fit with their life plan or not. Remember that the career doesn’t always permit your desire lifestyle. For example, an artist’s financial security isn’t guaranteed, so if you’re hoping to live in a big house and drive a new sports car, majoring in Art might not be the best idea.

You should also make sure there’s an active job market for whichever offline or online bachelor degreeyou choose. The idea is to be aware of the demand on the market. For example, STEM graduates are able –at least on average – to find job easier than their colleagues majoring in other areas of study.

When a field of study is in demand, there’s also a wide range of scholarship opportunities available that encourage students to get into the certain area of study. This applies in the case of STEM. Let us share with you, one such example.

The Department of Defense has created a scholarship program dubbed SMART which awards full tuition and a stipend to students in STEM which agree to work for the Department upon graduation.

The Science, Mathematics and Research for Transformation (SMART) scholarship is targeting students pursuing an undergrad or graduate degree in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. The 19 STEM disciplines which are eligible are listed on the Department of Defense’s website.

The grant covers full tuition and education related fees payment. On top of that awardees will be offered the benefit of a stipend between $25,000 to $38,000 depending on the degree being pursued. Health insurance and a $1,000 Miscellaneous Supplies Allowance are also offered as part of the bundle.

In order to apply for this grant, you need to be at least 18 years of age and enrolled with one of the accredited STEM-related degree programs at a US university. Students also must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 to be considered for this grant.
