College is expensive, so LendEDU is giving away a $1,000 scholarship

Don’t know how you will pay for college? LendEDU wants to help

Paying for college is becoming an increasingly difficult task, but with the help of scholarships you might be able to succeed without depleting all your finances

Students who have finished high school have to make a choice: do they enroll with a university degree or decide to pursue something else? A full bachelor degree takes four years to complete, but if you’re eager to enter the work force sooner, you might want to consider enrolling with an offline or online associate degree.

For those who don’t know, an associate degree is a type of postsecondary offline or onlinedegree program which earns you a diploma rated higher than a high school diploma, but is on a lower level than one obtained through a bachelor degree.

The greatest advantage of an offline or online associate degree is that it can be completed within two years, although some accelerated programs that can be completed in less than a year also exist. What’s more, some schools offer credit for work experience, so working students enrolled with an associate offline or online degree program are at an advantage.

Two-year degrees are available with community colleges, traditional universities, vocational schools, and trade schools. And many of these institutions will offer students the option to either attending a campus-based program or earning their degree online.

There are many reasons why you should enroll with an associate degree, except the fact that it takes half the time to complete. For example, a two-year degree can lead to better job prospect, a higher salary and provide the occupational training you need to enter a specific business field.

On top of that, associate degrees are cheaper, so you’ll be able to pay for them faster. If you win a scholarship or two, you’ll be able to kiss your financial worries goodbye in no time.  Not all scholarships welcome associate degree students to apply, but those who do are pretty common-place. Here’s an example.

The LendEDU scholarship is available for high school seniors or full college students who have maintained a minimum 2.5GPA in high school or college. The scholarship is worth $1,000 and will be awarded to two students.

In order to be eligible to receive the grant money, students are required to write a 750-word (or less) essay which answers the following question:

“With more people taking on student debt to pay for college and record high default rates, what do you think can be done to improve the financial literacy of our nation’s young adults to help this problem?”

You have until October 15, 2017 which doesn’t leave you a lot of time to come up with the essay, but a quick brain storming session should supply you with the necessary ideas to complete the task.

Once you are done, check LendEDU’s website and fill in your Name and Email and then paste in your essay. Or you can just attach the file in .doc(x) format. Then you keep your fingers crossed in hopes you’ll get chosen as the winner.

The GE-Reagan Foundation awards a $10,000 scholarship to student leaders

The scholarship is offered as an homage to Ronald Regan

The scholarship offered by the GE-Reagan Foundation is renewable for up to three times, so you could get up to $40,000 in funding

Do you think those traditional or online college courses cost too much? It’s not just you. Students around the world are struggling to pay their college expenses, but why should you be one of them? If you’re a high-school senior thinking of enrolling with a distance learning program or a traditional one, you should really try and seek funding first before you go take out a student loan.

As a student of offline or online college courses you can seek funding in a number of places. First off you should try your traditional or distance learning degree provider. Usually offline, as well as online universities offer multiple scholarship opportunities, but if for some reason or another you don’t get accepted in one of these programs, you should try seeking alternative methods to get funding for college.

Like applying for a grant offered by a foundation or association. Take for example the GE-Reagan Foundation scholarship opportunity.

The program was created to honor the legacy of America’s 40th President, Ronald Reagan and awards scholarships to students who can demonstrate leadership capabilities, drive, integrity and citizenship at school, at the workplace and within the community.

Interested parties have to show a strong academic record to be considered for the scholarship, as GPA of minimum 3.0 GPA is required to enter the program. While candidates have to be current high school seniors attending school in the US, students living on U.S. Armed Forces based and homeschooled students are also eligible to apply.

Even if you fulfill the requirements, it’s worth noting that an eligible community leader such as a high school principal, elected official or executive director of a nonprofit organization must nominate you. He or she must also provide the needed documentation that testify to your spotless academic record and financial need.

How much can you receive in case you are selected as one of the winners of the scholarships offered by the GE-Reagan Foundation? Well you can become the recipient of a $10,000 grant which is renewable for up to three years. Meaning you can get up to $40,000 in total.

So if you wish to apply you have to remember this: if you don’t have a strong record of being actively involved in your school, community etc there is really no point in trying to get into this program. The Foundation is looking to award this grant to students who exhibit the characteristics valued and displayed by Ronald Reagan including leadership, drive and citizenship.

If your talents lie somewhere else (for example you write awesome poetry) you should start looking for other scholarships. They are out there waiting for you. All you need to do is conduct some research and don’t give up if you don’t find them in the first 10 minutes. Sometimes you will have to do a little digging. But the end result might be worth it.

For high school students, autumn is the perfect period to start making college plans, as you have a full year ahead to map out your path.

Veterans of Foreign Wars awards a comprehensive $30,000 scholarship

Apply for the Voice of Patriotism scholarship program

Want to pay for college but don’t know how. Submit a patriotic video essay and you have a chance to win $30,000

Long boring scholarship applications have become a constant of students’ life. If you’re enrolled into a distance learning program or a traditional one you’re probably familiar with the process.

Grants for school abound, unfortunately it’s not so simple to land one. Most scholarship programs require a student to do lots of things – gather documents, write essays, get their teachers to write letters of recommendations for them and so on.

What happens if a student is in acute need of sponsorship and can’t devote his or her time only to one scholarship application. To maximize chances of getting a grant, one has to send out applications everywhere. But if you’re stuck working on a single application, your chances of getting funding in time get drastically reduced.

That’s why it might be worthy to consider applying to more atypical scholarship programs. Grants for school are also offered by third-party institutions and associations and usually their requirements are a bit less strict. Which is why those enrolled with a distance learning program or a traditional one should do some research on easy to apply scholarships.

You might think that a scholarship program will always require you to submit tons of documents, but that’s not always the case. Sure you need to be wary of scams, because some applications might ask suspiciously few of you. But don’t go down thinking that each scholarship program with non-traditional requirements is ran by scammers. That’s certainly not the case. And we have an example to prove we are right.

The Voice of Democracy Scholarship is offered by Veterans of Foreign Wars. The association is committed to promoting patriotism and investing in the future generation, so it is looking to award a $30,000 grant to the winner of their audio-essay competition.

Basically you need to submit an audio-essay between 3 to 5 minutes which tackles the following subject: American History – our hope for the future.

What is an audio-essay you might be wondering at this point? Well instead of writing your thoughts on a piece of paper or typing them on a computer, you’ll have to recite them out on camera. You can shoot the video with you in the frame or not, it’s entirely up to you. Just make sure you submit your creative composition until November 1, 2017. There’s not much time left, so if you have a patriotic idea about the topic, go ahead and get that camera out.

While the grand prize is worth $30,000, Veterans of Foreign Wars also offers other scholarships which range between $1,000 to $16,000.

It would really be a shame to skip this scholarship program, because applying to it is really easy. As you can see Veterans of Foreign Wars does not have a GPA requirement, nor does it ask you to submit school transcripts or letters of recommendations. All you have to do is create a video essay that’s up to 5 minutes long.

Look Twice, Save a Life Scholarship awards students $1,000 to pay for their college tuition

Students looking to fund their education can apply for this Insurance Providers grant

Create a video or essay on motorcycle safety for a chance to win a $1,000 grantto be used to pay for college expenses

Usually when students are searching for college programs to apply to they take into consideration at least two main factors:

  • Does this college I’m thinking of applying to offer a degree program in the field I want to study
  • Is it very expensive?

Some degrees tend to be more expensive than others, and when it comes to cost it also matter whether you’ve enrolled with a traditional or online school. Traditionally, institutions that offer university online degree programs are less expensive than 4 year traditional schools. However, in some cases there’s that extra expense involved in taking classes online in the form of a “per course” fee.

That’s why you need to ready very carefully before applying with any online school.

Also consider this aspect – some universities will have different in-state AND out-of-state tuition rats. So fees will be significantly higher if you live outside of the state. This does not apply for university online degree programs, but if you’re aiming to enroll with a traditional college you should definitely be aware of the in-state/out-of-state difference in tuition fees. Even so cost still remains high when it comes to online degrees.

You see it’s hard to make an online program more accessible for students when schools are using the same faculty staff for their online programs that they are using in their brick-and-mortar programs.

But because costs vary from school to school, it’s important to do a budget analysis, looking at all the specific costs associated with earning the particular degree you want to pursue. Once future students are made aware of all the costs and fees associated with an online program, they can decide whether distance learning is the best route or not.

That’s why it’s very important you read very careful the information presented on the university’s website. Some even offer an expense calculator tool, so you can get a better idea of how much you will end up spending to get the degree.

Oh yeah, and don’t forget about scholarships. It never hurts to apply for one or two or more. If successful, you’ll get ahold of a sum of money you can use to pay for your degree.

Here’s an example which could get you some quick money for college: the Look Twice, Save a Life scholarship which aims to help promote motorcycle safety among students.

The grant is provided by Insurance Providers, a seller of insurance and is worth $1,000. In order to apply for this grant you will need to submit a creative effort – which can range anywhere between video, artwork, essay or any other media format – that will hopefully inspire students to focus on motorcycle safety.

You will also have to fill out a brief application form with your personal details which shouldn’t take more than 10 minutes of your time. So if you want to go to college and have an interest in motorcycle safety, don’t hesitate to apply for this grant. You have until December 1, 2017 to apply.

Online students can apply for these $1,000 scholarships at Bemidji State University

Scholarships for online students aren’t so common, but they exist

Online students might have to do some digging before they can find the scholarships specifically targeted at them. You can start with this one

A college or graduate school education can be costly for on-campus and distance learning students, but fortunately there are ways to help ease the burden of these hefty costs.

So how do you get financial assistance to help cover the costs of your online masters degree or bachelor program? The same as traditional students. First off you try and apply for financial aid at the university where you enrolled. However, you need to proceed with caution. Prospective distance learning students should first make sure a program is accredited by the Department of Education. If that’s the case, then the students are definitely eligible to receive federal funds.

Then there’s the decision of whether a student should enroll in a full online masters degree or bachelor or a part-time one. You see this could end up affecting the amount of financial aid you will ultimately get. So keep in mind that many online programs require students to meet credit-hour requirements to receive certain amount or types of aid.

The second route to getting the funding you need for college is to apply for scholarships. But keep one thing in mind. Yes, some scholarship providers are still hesitant about online education and while some scholarships are open to online learners enrolled in accredited programs, some are not.

Students should research beforehand to make absolutely sure they are eligible for a certain scholarship or risk wasting their precious time on an application that will never go through. It would be advised you acquaint yourself with scholarship search engines – which allow students to specify their individual circumstances and get the results that only match their specific criteria.

Anyway, to get you started on the road to getting a grant, here’s an example you might want to check out. The Bemidji State University located in Minnesota offers a wide range of scholarship options for online and distance learning students. These grants are awarded based on both need and merit and if you’re curious you can check out the database for more information.

For example, the university offers the Edward Gersich Distance Education Scholarship which is worth $1,000 and is targeted at distance learning students with junior or senior status.

Applicants need to be at least 25 years old to apply and have a minimum GPA of at least 3.0. To become eligible for the Edward Gersich Distance Education Scholarship your application also needs to include an essay in which you talk about your future educational goals and give some reasons as to why you should be awarded the scholarship.

As we mentioned above, the Bemidji State University also offers other scholarship opportunities like the Gladys McKinley Distance Learning scholarship for undergraduate or graduate students enrolled in Teacher Education Degree Programs. This grant is also worth $1,000.

For students pursuing a business-related degree or professions, there’s the Michael McKinley Distance Learning scholarship which awards the same $1,000 sum. It’s awarded to students either at an undergraduate or graduate level.

Female students can apply for this international $7,000 grant

Planning to study business? This grant can help you pay for your education

If you are a female student studying Business you can apply for this scholarship offered by Zonta International

So you’ve enrolled with a traditional or online university and you’re planning to get a scholarship to pay for your tuition. That’s actually a great plan to have, but before you start looking for sponsorship for your college education online or offline listen to this.

You need to be very wary, as you might encounter a wide variety of scholarship scams out there, and sometimes it might not be that easy to identify them. One thing to remember is that you should never asked for money or financial information when you apply for a grant. All legitimate scholarship programs seeking to fund your traditional or online university courses should be free to apply for, and the information regarding the steps you need to take to apply should be readily available online.

Sometimes while you’re looking for scholarships to fund your college education online or offline, you might receive an email out of the blue saying that you’ve been selected to receive a scholarship. If that happens to you, ask yourself this. Have you applied for this scholarship? If you haven’t, but received an email telling you that you will be awarded one, you should definitely view this as a big red flag. Try to remember this: you can only receive a grant if you applied to it. No opportunity is going to come to you out of the blue, while you sit on the sofa and eat popcorn.

Scammers might also say things like “we have exclusive access” to such and such information about scholarships, but no one has exclusive access to such information. This info should widely be available to anyone interested in getting money for college.

What they probably mean is that they can provide you with a list of scholarships you can apply to, but you can easily find your own scholarships to apply to – for free. Just fire up your browser and start researching. Sure it might take some time to find the right programs, but at least you won’t have to pay money on a service that provides you something you can get access to yourself.
